June 2008 : The Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 draft target is that by 2020 , Kuala Lumpur would have increased its public transport share to 60% ,
which is the situation in London and Singapore now while Hong Kong has surpassed that . The directions for public transport drawn out in the
draft : - To increase public transport share in city centre to 40% in 2010 , 50% in 2015 and 60% in 2020 ( now : barely 20% )
Over 90% of the daily journeys in Hong Kong are on public transport , said to be the highest in the world . For rail transport , the Mass Transit Railway
( MTR ) comprises 10 lines with 82 railway stations and 68 light rail stops . The MTR is complemented by the Tramways and Funicular railways .
The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit ( MRT ) consists of three main lines with a total rail network length of 109.4 km and 64 stations . A new Circle Line is slated for completion by 2010 while Sentosa Express monorail connects Singapore with Sentosa Island .
The Land Transport Authority has set stringent requirements for the rail service provider , including
having at least 94% of trains arrive within two minutes of schedule and downtime of not more than 500 hours per 10,000 hours
of operation for general ticketing machines .
" Various problems KLites are afflicted with – from the grinding traffic
jams, lack of public space, and overdevelopment thru wanton increase in
density approvals which has severely reduced the quality of life in the
city " .......... proves that MP didn't know about details such as bus didn't pick up passenger , bus kick out passengers eg Sunway Pyramid ........ ( shortcut solutions ??? Let it be clear , discarding the Plan in favour of a new and distant
Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2050 leaves a longer period that our city’s
development is open to exploitation ..................2cabar Wesak Eve 02/05/2015 )
